Right to roam – misleading signs |

There may be some landowners who think they can deter ramblers by simply erecting ‘no trespassing’ and ‘keep out’ signs.
However, it is an offence to display a notice containing false or misleading information likely to deter the public from exercising the right to roam; moreover, this is an offence of strict liability. Accordingly, landowners should take considerable care about the wording of signs (and refer to the Countryside Agency’s ‘Land Managers Guidance Pack’).
