If your client buys a property in Turkey, do they need to have a will drawn
up in Turkey or does their English will cover everything? If the client has
a valid English will the English courts would say that this applies to the
client’s worldwide assets.
However, the authorities in Turkey or any
other country might not recognise that will. Clients with assets in other
jurisdictions should be advised to make another will in that country
but there should be liaison between their overseas lawyer and their
English lawyer so that they do not end up with a foreign will which the
English courts do not recognise. From ‘All about wills’ at
