Apparently, the main errors on SDLT1s (which lead to SDLT8 letters
being issued) are:
- box 10: the ‘total consideration’ figure must be filled in (except for the
grant of a new lease – in which case, questions 16-25 must be
completed instead);
- box 29: the local authority number must always be entered (these can
be found in the guidance notes to SDLT6);
- box 34: the number of sellers must be entered (if more than one then
questions 45-48 must be answered;if more than two, a supplementary
SDLT2 return will be needed for each additional seller);
- box 70: you must insert the number of supplementary returns – the
key point being that if the answer is ‘none’ then you must insert ‘0’.
